On the 5th July (Tuesday) Julia from Whitwell Against Alkane will be interviewed live on Radio 5 Live between 5-6PM along with a representative of the Anaerobic Digestion & Bio Gas Association. Well worth a listen we’d say.
The June meeting of Whitwell Against Alkane took place last night at the Whitwell Community Centre, it was great to see how many people attended – but it’d be even better to see a lot more!
Updates on progress were provided by Duncan Kerr with information about what has been going on in the background and what is planned. One of the main points made was that Alkane Energy did not expect the strong backlash from the community to their plans and it put them on the back foot – the more time we can make them spend in dealing with questions and objections the better. The more time they spend on this, the more money it cost them and the less profitable it becomes.
A celebration of the 90th year of the Royal British Legion will be taking place with the Great Poppy Party at Whitwell Community Centre on the 10th June 2011 from 5:00PM.
There will be entertainment, stalls, refreshments and the bar will be open. Come along and celebrate the 90th anniversary of The Royal British Legion and raise money to help current servicemen and women as well as ex-service personnel and their families.
The main discussions from members of the public to councillors were:
- Lorries – What can we do to stop them? Ken Stevenson is persuing a number of areas on this, with some more suggested by members of the public.
- Housing – What is being done to improve social housing stock and get them filled?
- Recording of Meetings – We raised this issue and it will be discussed as an agenda item at the next meeting.
Congratulations to Tim and all the staff at the Chip Inn, Whitwell on gaining 5 stars last week in their food hygeine assesment. Previously they held 4 stars out of the maximum of 5.
The June 2011 Parish Council meeting will be held at Whitwell Community Centre on Wednesday 8th June 2011 – back to the usual slot of the 2nd Wednesday of the month.
The agenda for the meeting can be found at the top of the page here: Whitwell Parish Council – Meetings – Agendas and Minutes
Here at Whitwell.info we will be seeking permission to record the meeting and future meetings as a matter of public record – we’ll let you know how we get on with that. If we’re allowed then we’ll be posting up the recordings (in whole and broken down per agenda item).
After a break for the elections Whitwell Against Alkane will be holding their next public meeting on Thursday 9th June at 7:30PM at the Whitwell Community Centre. The bar will also be open as well as tea and coffee being available.
On a personal note, we hope as many people as possible will attend – this is a serious matter and many people still do not even know about it! So if you are attending, please bring a friend or two along as well. We can stop this, but only if we don’t sit around thinking it’s a done deal already – it most certainly isn’t and apathy will let them in.
