Whitwell Gala 2011 – A Great Day Out

If you didn’t come down to the Whitwell Village Gala this year then you missed a treat, the weather maybe wasn’t hte best but we avoided any major downpours and all had a great time.

This year saw the introduction of a couple of new items, the photo and art competitions as well as the “World Tiggy Off t’ Ground Championships” – Which was won by Northern Monkey.  Hopefully we’ll be ablre to get hold of copies of the winning entries for the art and photo competitions (We have the winning entry for the 11+ photo competition but not the others).

The Gala also saw the launch of the latest must have fashion accessory, the WAA Nose Clip – a bit of fun may be, but making a serious point that if we don’t all pull together to stop the Alkane Energy development then we’ll all be needing a nose clip to visit the Gala if it goes ahead.

The Whitwell Welly Wanging Champion 2011 was also crowned and presented with their trophy – of which we’ll be posting up later.

Whitwell Against Alkane Meeting – 9th June 2011

The June meeting of Whitwell Against Alkane took place last night at the Whitwell Community Centre, it was great to see how many people attended – but it’d be even better to see a lot more!

Updates on progress were provided by Duncan Kerr with information about what has been going on in the background and what is planned.  One of the main points made was that Alkane Energy did not expect the strong backlash from the community to their plans and it put them on the back foot – the more time we can make them spend in dealing with questions and objections the better.  The more time they spend on this, the more money it cost them and the less profitable it becomes.

Whitwell Against Alkane Meeting

After a break for the elections Whitwell Against Alkane will be holding their next public meeting on Thursday 9th June at 7:30PM at the Whitwell Community Centre.  The bar will also be open as well as tea and coffee being available.

On a personal note, we hope as many people as possible will attend – this is a serious matter and many people still do not even know about it! So if you are attending, please bring a friend or two along as well.  We can stop this, but only if we don’t sit around thinking it’s a done deal already – it most certainly isn’t and apathy will let them in.
