Whitwell Against Alkane – Public Meeting

Whitwell Against Alkane will be holding a public meeting on 5th July at 7:30PM in the Community Centre.

As we already know, Alkane Energy Plc. withdrew their planning application last month leaving WAA with funds left over from the various fund raising activities.  The plan was always that any money left over would be distributed to local projects/groups – this meeting is to help decide where that money should go, so WAA need input from as many people as possible.

Whitwell wins against Alkane Energy plc.

Victory for the people of Whitwell – Alkane Energy plc. have withdrawn their planning application for the anaerobic digestion facility on Southfield Lane.

You can see the letter of withdrawal on the Derbyshire planning website here: http://www.derbyshire.gov.uk/environment/planning/planning_applications/recent_decisions/app-details.asp?AppCode=CW5/0410/6&AppType=1 – it's in the list of documents (2nd from the bottom in the list at the time of writing).

We'd like to thank everyone at Whitwell Against Alkane for all their hard work and time put in to defeating Alkane Energy plc.

We also hope that this serves as an important lesson for Whitwell, that things can change and people can make a difference and that we do not have to accept what is happening in the belief that things "are a done deal" or "will never change".  All it takes is people working together and understanding that it does take time, and hard work but that we can make a difference and make Whitwell a better place to live and work.

Rock Against Alkane 2

Set a date in your diary to rock!  It’s time for Rack Against Alkane 2 on 31st March 2012 at Whitwell Community Centre.

After the fantastic success of the original Rack Against Alkane it’d time to dust of your dancing shoes and show Alkane Energy that we don’t want their stench in our village.

Door open at 7PM with the first band on stage at 7:30PM, entry is £3 and the bar will be open until late.

This year will see performances from:

  • Cold Gin
  • Midnight Riot
  • Six Inch Subs
  • Behind the Blind
  • Casper & the Fleas

As well as Matt Scott’s “The Drumming Workshop” which proved to be a fantastic hit last time around.

The event is also listed on Facebook where you can go to keep up to date with the latest news.

Whitwell Against Alkane – Meeting the Land Owners (3rd November 2011)

Whitwell Against Alkane will be holding their next public meeting on 3rd November 2011 at 7:30PM.

The meeting will be attended by representatives from the Homes & Communities Agency (HCA) who are the new land owners of the Southfield Lane site that Alkane Energy wish to build on – with this in mind we would urge everyone who can attend to do so, this is our chance to make the HCA aware of how much this will impact upon our community and how we feel about that.

As usual the bar will be open from 7PM with the meeting closing at 9PM.

Whitwell Parish Council Meeting – 12th October 2011

For the sake of clarity: These are not official minutes of the Whitwell Parish Council.  These are minutes taken and produced by Whitwell.info for the benefit of the community so that you may see the discussions and reasons around the decisions made, not just that a decision was made on your behalf as a resident.

Update: The minutes have been updated to correct an error in item 16 since first published.

Reminder: Whitwell Against Alkane Public Meeting

Just to remind you all that the next public meeting for Whitwell Against Alkane (Alkane Energy PLC) will take place on 8th September 2011 from 7:30PM at the Whitwell Community Centre.  As usual the bar will be open from 7PM.

As we all know, one of the concerns with Alkane is an increase in the levels of HGVs using the village – of course they assure us they won’t use the village, but we all know the drivers themselves will use whatever route they think is the quickest – and Alkane in the past haven’t answered if they will impose fines on drivers who do use the village, which here we think says it all.  With that in mind WAA have invited the people behind a campaign to stop HGVs using Whitwell completely to come and do a brief talk.

As well as the HGV issue, the following items will also be discussed:

  • Residents Liaison Committee
  • Chemical and pathogens
  • Wind Direction
  • The Rumour Mill
  • Review of 2010/2011

If you’re going to come to the meeting (and we hope you do, and urge everyone to try and bring a neighbour or three) then why not set out a bit earlier and come along to the Safer Neighbourhood Police Panel meeting the hour before at the community centre?
