Well dressing is a tradition within Derbyshire that dates back 100s of years. Whilst many have claimed to know the origin it still remains largely unknown.
Currently over 60 Towns and Villages take part within Derbyshire each year, decorating their wells with colourful displays composed of flowers and berries pressed in to clay and held in wooden frames. Each dressing takes many hours of hard work in both the design and construction phases.
Whitwell takes part every year, with two displays – one located up on the village green off of High Street and one located at the old pump in The Square.
